About the Northeast Ohio Citizens League

Our Mission

The mission of the Northeast Ohio Citizens League is to create a new regional civic space, empowering citizens to reinvent Northeast Ohio by educating and engaging them in the community decision-making process.

Our Founding Principles

At the foundation of all Northeast Ohio Citizens League work lay the following principles:

1. We believe that citizens are eager to develop an in-depth understanding of regional policy issues, and should be encouraged to contribute to policy discussions by interacting with regional experts, thought leaders, and one another
2. We believe that in order to create a common regional identity, Northeast Ohio's Citizens must have a shared knowledge base and understanding of the critical public policy issues facing our region as a whole.
3. We believe that information-sharing and idea-creation is maximized through the empowerment of individual participants to share perspectives and opinions in a variety of community settings, including, but not exclusive to community forums, online discussions, and citizen-driven study committees.
4. We believe that open-minded and inquisitive citizens thrive in an interactive, non-partisan environment, and a culture of civility and respect, honesty and authenticity.

Our Primary Activities

The Northeast Ohio Citizens League will engage active citizens in an intensive process of education, engagement, and exploration of the critical public policy issues facing Northeast Ohio. Through a sophisticated and integrated combination of Civic Education & Engagement, Civic Asset Mapping, Online News & Civic Dialogue, and Citizen-driven Study Committee work, Citizens League members will develop well-reasoned, well-informed, and above all innovative policy recommendations. This new and unique civic space will serve to engage all of our region's divers stakeholders in a meaningful and effective conversation around the enhancement of our region's common good.
