Executive Director

Mike Gesing has long been active in conversations around the future of northeast Ohio and technology. Most recently he was self-employed through Smart Coast, an Internet consulting firm. Clients included local public broadcasting stations, Cleveland Tomorrow, MAGNET and a number of smaller companies. Special focus has been on exploring the intersection between technology, media and citizen activism to improve the community.
Much earlier, in late ’93, he started Cyberspace Construction Company, one of the first website developers in Cleveland. Later, while with Cleveland.com in 1998 he wrote a white paper entitled “Regionalism & the Digital Economy”. This looked at the implications of these 2 emerging forces on northeast Ohio and suggested a number of initiatives to capitalize on the emerging “dot com“ economy.
Mike was also involved in the recent Voices & Choices effort, the early citizen engagement initiative of the Fund for Our Economic Future. This eventually led to discussions with local leaders and citizens on the need for a concerted “citizens led” effort – one that could be a catalyst for bringing all sectors of our regional into a true collaborative “civic process”.
Mike lives with his wife and two children in Bay Village, Ohio.
